Digging a little deeper on the Television Selection

Posted on | January 9, 2010 | No Comments

As we said, there are many selections for televisions and this is television season. Televisions are getting thinner, with higher contrast ratios and higher pixel counts. The Sony Bravia LCD Flat Panel HDTV is a HDTV 1080P (1980×1080). Some people say the picture jumps right out of the screen. I don’t have this model television but I have sat in the store and watched some 1080P Blue Ray movies. I will say that the picture is phenomenal. Prices are coming down. I have a 52 inch and paid close to 3K two years for a similar model but different brand.  I’m not going to disclose the brand because many of these brands share parts manufacturers. In many cases, the actual brand simply provides the shell and the “look” of the TV. That’s not always the case but it certainly happens quite a bit. Take a look at the sleek Sony Bravia:

KDL-55XBR8

The Panasonic Viera is another popular model in 2010. This 54″ TV is also 1080p and going for about $1499.  Take a look at their design:

Pananonic Viera

Lastly, the Sharp AQUOS LCD is also a 1080p and the 52 inch goes for as little as $700. See below:

I highly recommend going to see the picture at the store for these televisions. Buying it online is a great way to get it to your house but it’s really nice to see the picture before you purchase. There are a variety of price ranges and the picture quality is something everyone should judge for themselves.  Televisions are fun to check out so Happy shopping!

Superbowl Season

Posted on | January 7, 2010 | No Comments

Well, it’s exciting for football fans and it’s so exciting that Superbowl season is also Television shopping season. More televisions and home theatre are sold for the super bowl than any other event. Sooooo, if you’re going to go shopping for televisions, you’re going to be looking at LCD Televisions and HDTV.

The televisions on the market these days are just awesome. I have to admit that I bought a big screen and I love it. I also got talked into speakers for my home theater system that could blow my roof off. I love every minute of it. I will also say that between blue ray, the huge screen and the HDTV, I don’t go to movies anymore…  and, frankly, if I’m going to go to a football or baseball game, I better have some good seats.

It’s just that my screen and my sound system has spoiled me. I mean… when you throw in the DVR and the ability to pause the game, it’s kind of nice. I love the fact that the bathroom is close, the drinks and popcorn are cheap and I don’t have to drive anywhere. Big screens, HDTV, home theatre systems and dvr’s really add value to the relaxing at home!

Math on the beach?

Posted on | January 7, 2010 | No Comments

It’s not quite Pina Coladas on the beach but if you’re sneaking away for the winter and you have children, I’m sure they’d rather be doing their math homework in Playa del Carmen than back at home. It’s going to be a high of 28 tomorrow and I live in Texas! Ridiculous. Anyway, bring your aircard, get some internet access and set up shop on the beach. If the kids need some Math Help, there is online tutoring and they offer help with all kinds of math classes.

One of the things I really like about the online tutoring is that they offer more styles and learning methods. Do you need to have your math more real world? They can tailor quizzes and teachings for that. Do you need more pictures? Do you need a faster pace? More People? More movement? More complicated? They let you select your settings and the customize approach to your learning style will help you learn more.

Make no mistake, math continues to build on itself and if you don’t get it early, it’s tough to move forward, for example it’s very important to get Algebra Help if you need it. Getting by with just a C is okay but getting a solid foundation in algebra will help you in many subjects as you move into college type classes. Making life easier down the road opens up more time for frat parties and spring break in Playa del Carmen so study hard and seek help when you need it.

Style for your Home

Posted on | January 7, 2010 | No Comments

There’s something special about having a home and not just a house or condo. A home is a place filled with memories, action and interaction. Places that are homes generally have a little panache. They have a little style and are customized. Thing like mailboxes, for example, are rarely noticed by anyone until you notice them.

Isn’t that interesting to you? Think about it. Many things are invisible. Think about a stop sign for example. You know it’s there and you acknowledge it but it doesn’t really stand out to you unless there is something different about it. Well, do you want your home to be like a stop sign? Do you want it to go unnoticed by everyone so they consider your home just another house? Mail boxes are just the type of customized things that can grab the attention of people. But more importantly is you. You go to the mailbox almost every day. It’s practically a journey when I take my 2 year old with me. It just occurs to me that a mail box could be so much more if it puts a smile on your face every day. Just a thought.

If you’re in business, you definitely want to make an impression and capture attention of potential customers so you’re going to want to look through the series of commercial mailboxes in the link. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. That cliche goes a long way when you’re selling a product. People remember things they don’t like and really remember things they like a lot…  so make a good impression with the external appearance of your business!!!

Be a local

Posted on | January 7, 2010 | No Comments

It’s nice to know that you can be a local where ever you are. It’s becoming more common for certain search engines and directories to target adds based on your IP address. Click here on your local yellowpages and do a local search. The site in the link is an up and coming search directory for locals. Everyone wants things to be easy and they do a good job.

The second I click on local.com and click enter, I land on a page all about Dallas, TX (where I live) and the home page is full of local restaurants, reviews and things applicable to my home town. If, for some reason, it’s misreading your IP address (which I haven’t seen but glitches are possible with any system), simply click at the top and change you’re location.

If you want restaurants, click restaurants. If you want hotels, type it in next to: what? It’s like everything in the search engine world, the more specific you get, the more likely you are to find exactly what you want. The local directory just eliminates the step of you having to type in location because it already detects your location. Life’s all about time and we want you to spend more time at the beach when you got to Playa del Carmen!

Chicken Fun

Posted on | January 3, 2010 | No Comments

Well, it’s funny. There are all kinds of ways to find a sanctuary; a place where you feel happy and relaxed…  a place where all of the world seems to fade away and you can escape. Of course, heading down to Playa del Carmen for the week is one way to escape. Of course, that’s a more literal escape. After all, you are packing up and going to a tropical destination unless you already live in Playa Del Carmen.

People are looking for escape in their daily lives. There are several things that give people a sense of peace. One of those things is by accomplishing things. There’s something very theapuetic about accomplishing basic tasks. Cleaning the house, growing your own tomatoes or changing the oil in your car. At the end of those tasks, you feel good about what you’ve done and that helps your well being.

Well, I keep hearing about these chicken coops. I’ve seen articles in the Dallas Morning Star. My parents have seen articles in their newspapers in Michigan. People are seriously starting to raise chickens as pets. It’s remarkably simple. They’re easy animals and they produce food eggs. You’ll know that your eggs are free range and chickens are treated well. High production chickens can produce 2-300 eggs a year! So, a couple high producing hens and you have your eggs. Furthermore, chickens produce great waste to feed your garden.

Many people have a pre-disposition to raising chickens. They believe that chickens are dirty and loud. They believe chicken coops are ugly and belong on farms. Well, chickens are birds and they do produce a good amount of waste but there are all kinds of chicken coops on the market. There may even be a chicken coop to fit your style.

If you like to build, there are several vendors that sell plans to their chicken coops. It seems cost effective and might be fun. It’s one of those activities where you’ll get a sense of accomplishment and see a final product! Anyway, when you’re not vacationing in Playa del Carmen, it’s important to find your mini vacations and escapes. Raising chickens and building a chicken coop might just be right for you!

Going to Playa del Carmen??

Posted on | January 2, 2010 | No Comments

Planning a trip to Playa del Carmen?  So are we…  we’re headed to that city on the coast of the Caribbean Sea…  the one named for Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patron saint of Cancun…  How I love planning vacations!

In the packing process…  always want to make sure the “necessities” are packed in the carry-on!!   I try to pass my hard lessons learned to others.  Though the airlines have lost my luggage on MANY occasions, only once (the first time) did I have any “necessities” packed in the checked bags.  I define necessities as anything I need that runs the risk of not being able to purchase once I reach my destination (ie, my favorite sunglasses, phone/computer chargers, baby formula, and any special clothing you have purchased for a specific event (wedding, business meetings).   You can always rest assured you will be able to score toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc at a local store…  but those awesome designer sunglasses you just bought?  If you’re surrounded by palm trees and turquoise waters, there may not be a shopping mall down the street in which you can find a replacement pair (of the same quality, of course)!  And I haven’t been to Playa del Carmen yet so I don’t know what the shopping is like, but my husband would be highly agitated if his polarized sunglasses missed the boat!!  I have to admit…  After he bought me my first pair of those things, I’ll never go back to anything else!  They make the scenery that much better!!  Not to mention making the sun a little easier to take!

Enjoy the sun and fun!!

Fun at home

Well, we know that you can’t always be on vacation on the beach…  unless of course you live there. However, you can always show your address in style! If you’re mind is on the beach, find an address plaque that matches that theme. It’s just one way to make your home a little more personal.

In the hustle and bustle of  today’s lifestyle, people are on the go constantly. People barely take time to get to know their neighbors. People live right next door and barely know anything about each other. Modernization is to blame. The information age hasn’t helped. Impersonal emails replace letters. Things are much less formal.

Not all of it is bad, mind you. It’s different. Frankly, I’m all for the less formal part. It’s just that with formal affairs, more thought is given to the situation. If there’s a way to eliminate the formal and keep the thought in place, that would be ideal.

Little things matter and taking the time to go through address plaques and find a personal address sign that matches your family style and personality is a very nice detail. It’s one way to reach out just a little bit and interact with your neighbors. It can also be very stylish!

Dream Big!

Posted on | December 27, 2009 | No Comments

It’s a Sunday. Christmas has just come to a close and I’m looking to the new year. It’s a nostalgic time but it’s also a time for looking ahead. I’ve always found great inspiration in the quotation, “Shoot for the moon. If you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” It sort of goes with the philosophy that it’s important to dream big. However, I think it’s more than just dreaming. It’s about setting goals and achieving milestones.

It’s always helped me to have some inspiration; a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. After all, isn’t that the inspiration for this website! It’s Via Playa Del Carmen, right? It takes a lot of inspiration to put in the required amount of effort to be successful. You have to want to do it!

So, for all those trying to find inspiration in Boston, take a look (from Bushari Group Real Estate):

featured_property_index

I know that it takes time to go build up the wealth to buy big ticket items like real estate but that’s the point! Find that beach house or that luxury real estate in Boston. I’ve always thought it would be fun to have my choice of a variety of Boston Luxury Lofts. I don’t want to live in the city all of the time but I love Boston in the summer time. I love the weather, the harbor and jogging the freedom trail and soaking in all of that history. At night, I like going down to the harbor area, enjoying a nice cold glass of Samuel Adams and some raw oysters. Someday, I look forward to returning to my luxury loft after my run, and getting ready to catch a Red Sox game from the comfort of my own place.

Fun and Educational Toys

Posted on | December 23, 2009 | No Comments

Well, it’s almost Christmas and I have two little ones. I am meeting up with my wife for lunch and we’re going to do some last minute shopping for stocking stuffer’s for the our two little ones. They are only 9 months apart; Cole just turned two and his little sister, Jaci, will be one.

I am amazed at what has become of toys and television. I remember watching a cat chase a mouse around or a road runner and a coyote. Ironically, they were remarkably violent but we loved them! Now, the cartoons are teaching spanish and chinese. The shows help with numbers, counting, shapes, colors and problem solving. Pretty amazing. So, when I shop, I have so many things to consider. I want to find some educational toys but I also want Cole and Jaci to play with them. An educational toy doesn’t do much good if it just sits on the shelf! Of course, as they get older, games are great for counting and learning but my kids are quite their yet!

Since it’s winter time, I’m going to hold off on outdoor toys but my kids LOVE the outdoors and they love their ourdoor toys. I just don’t want them to get sick so our time outside is very limited. We go for quick walks and run around because I want them to get fresh air but between the big wheel and a couple of beach balls, we are good to go for the rest of the winter. I will need to look into water toys for summer fun though!

Lastly, I wanted to mention that we’re looking for creative toys as well. I firmly believe in well rounded development. I want to expose my kids to education, physical fitness and creativity. They love their music and dance videos. Anything the helps them explore art, music and culture is a bonus. Having fun is the best way to learn!
